About the event

This years charity tournament is to raise money for Macmillan and The Prince of Wales Hospice.

These 2 charities have been chosen due to a family member of Lauren Whitakers' being diagnosed with Oesophageal and Stomach cancer during lockdown. He underwent multiple rounds of chemo and then had a huge life changing operation in June 2021.

He chose these 2 charities for 2 reasons; Macmillan because of all the support he received from them during his diagnosis, and The Prince of Wales Hospice due to his beloved rugby club, Castleford Tigers.

When he was sat enjoying a beer with his brother talking about what he could do to say thank you to the people who supported him he came up with the idea that he would cycle to Toulouse in the south of France to the rugby stadium to watch the Cas match on the 12th June.

Lauren has joined the “team” along with a few of his friends, and the route is 840 miles long! Glyn hadn’t ridden a bike for over 20 years and had never done more than 10 miles in a row, until his training began late last year.

For anyone who has not attended a Charity tournament at RLTC before, it's an informal event. All games are doubles, partners change every round and it's for all members of all standards. There's usually between 40 and 50 players.

On the day

We have Dough Baby Pizza van booked to cook our food between 3pm-5pm. There will be 5 choices of pizza, Margarita, Butternut Blue, Spicy, BBQ Chicken and a Chocolate pizza. They can cater for gluten free and vegan also. Please add this to your booking in the dietry requirements option. This is included in your ticket price.

There is also an option just to come for food if you have friends/relatives that would like to watch.

Drinks will be availible to purchase on the day as well.

It's a fantastic afternoon and two very worthy causes to support so it'll be great to see you there!
